Initiatives v Oligarchy

Our Founders' Warning: “Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories.” (Thomas Jefferson)

Dark Money

Dark money is funds given to nonprofits (501c4 and 501c6) that can receive unlimited donations from corporations and Oligarchs, can spend it to influence elections, but are not required to disclose their donors. These funds are enabled primarily by two Supreme Court Decisions: McCutcheon v. FEC (2014) and Citizens United v. FEC (2010), resulting in massive anonymous expenditures. Disclosure Acts have been proposed in Congress but have all failed to pass.
